Vertaallab is een nieuwe serie op Ooteoote die dichters uit andere taalgebieden aan de lezer voorstelt. Elke aflevering een spiksplinternieuw gedicht. Dat u mag vertalen, als u wilt. Graag zelfs, wat ons betreft. Post uw vertaling van onderstaand gedicht als reactie op dit bericht.

Een tip aan mogelijke vertalers: deze eerste aflevering geeft u de aanzet tot het Lipogrammatische experiment ‘Environment Canada’. a. rawlings laat bij ieder volgend gedicht in haar nieuwe dichtbundel één letter weg. Onderstaand gedicht, het eerste gedicht van de bundel, maakt gebruik van alle letters van het alfabet.

a.rawlings is een interdisciplinaire canadese dichter, performance- en beeldend kunstenaar. Haar eerste dichtbundel ‘Wide slumber for lepidopterists’ (Coach House Books, 2006) ontving de Alcuin Award for Design en werd genomineerd voor de Gerald Lampert Memorial Award; het boek wordt op dit moment naar het Frans vertaald. Haar werken ‘EFHILMNORSTUVWY’ and ‘Rule of Three’ werden tentoongesteld in de Simon Fraser University Art Gallery, het Niagara Arts Centre en Infusoria. angela ontving de Chalmers Arts Fellowship (2009-10) die haar in staat stelde te wonen en werken in België, Canada en IJsland. Ze werkte daar aan haar nieuwe manuscripten en deed onderzoek naar sound/text/movement met als speciale thema’s vocale improvisatie en contactimprovisatie. angela werkt momenteel samen met theatergezelschap bluemouth inc., de belgische kunstenaar Maja Jantar, de canadese muzikant Nilan Perera en de canadese danser Julie Lassonde.
